The illiteracy rate of nationals over the age of 15 went down from 7.11% (or 1.3 million people) in 1989 to 2.52% (or 472,000 people) in 1996 in Taiwan. Below is a detailed list of illiteracy rates of nationals over the age of 15 from 1989 through 2006.
