The 2017 Taiwan Higher Education Fair was held in Thai Nguyen in northern Vietnam on March 18, attracting 1,757 people, and then in Hanoi on March 19, attracting 1,218 people, all wanting to obtain information about studying abroad in Taiwan. The fair was organized by the Taiwan Education Center in Hanoi in conjunction with VNU University of Social Sciences and Humanities, and Thai Nguyen University in Vietnam, and Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages in Taiwan, with the assistance of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Vietnam.

Taiwanese corporations in Vietnam were also invited to participate in order to give them an opportunity to interact with young Vietnamese students and have a better understanding of their study circumstances, and to enhance university-academia cooperation and recruitment of skilled people in the future.

The weather was overcast and rainy during the fairs, but that didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of the many hundreds of parents and students who attended them. Twenty-seven universities and one senior secondary school sent a total of sixty representatives from Taiwan to take part and every university’s booth was crowded with people asking questions about that university’s environment, its programs and courses, professional training, tuition fees, scholarships, accommodation, and transportation. Every university uses scholarships, and courses taught in English to attract Vietnamese senior secondary, two-year college, and university students to study in Taiwan.

As well as the booths providing information about studying abroad, there were displays and many brochures promoting Taiwanese culture, and a Good Tea of Taiwan booth enabled students and parents to try Taiwan’s pearl milk tea. Student performances and lucky-draws were also held to lighten the atmosphere.

The Taiwan Education Center in Hanoi was co-established by VNU University of Social Sciences and Humanities and Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages.
Mr. Richard R.C. Shih, the Representative at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office chaired the opening ceremony for each of the fairs. He also took part in pre-fair dialogue on educational and academic exchanges between representatives of participating universities from Taiwan, and universities in Vietnam. The 2017 Taiwan Higher Education Fair was definitely a great success.
