What actions are taken when students don't do well in school?

1. Guidance on basic courses: According to the "Guidelines for Guidance of Basic Courses of Overseas Chinese Students," first-year students who don't do well in tests of basic courses and students of the second year and above who fail in basic courses are required to receive guidance on basic courses. Guidance offered are is limited to basic subjects such as Mandarin, Sun Yat - sen's Thoughts, Chinese History, English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. In recent years, guidance is also offered to for "professional subjects." A class can be opened when there are 6-40 students needing guidance on the same subject. If fewer than six ( 6 ) , individual guidance can be offered or guidance can be offered by a school nearby on its approval. Students can receive guidance on for no more than four (4) courses each semester without charge.


2. Extra lessons on holidays (summer and winter vacations): According to the " Rules Governing Extra Lessons Offered to Overseas Chinese Students of Junior Colleges and Above During during Holidays," students needing required to retake courses they have failed and students having to take basic courses of the schools or departments they have transferred to are eligible for such lessons. As long as there are ten 10 or more students needing extra lessons of the same subjects , such lessons can be offered. In special circumstances (i.e. students to be that will graduated in less than a year or they need to pass certain prerequisite subjects in order to take others ), such lessons can be offered with fewer than 10 students. Schools having few overseas Chinese students and are unable to offer such lessons may ask other schools to take in their students for such lessons. In principle, students are to take such lessons on for no more than three (3) subjects for a maximum of 10 credits each semester. Students to be that will graduate d in less than a year may take such lessons on for one (1) more subject for a maximum of four (4) credits each semester. Each credit is worth amounts to at least 16 hours of lessons, while each credit of practical training (experiments ) is worth amounts to at least 32 hours of lessons. Students taking such lessons have to pay credit tuition fees for each credit .
