NCYU Baseball Team alumnus Fu-Te Ni creates record in CPBL

Fu-Te Ni was an undergraduate student at the National Chiayi University (NCYU) and a member of the NCYU Baseball Team. In the game of Chinatrust Whales vs. Uni-President Lions, Fu-Te Ni was the first native Taiwanese pitcher in the Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL) who has thrown a complete game that completely prevented the opposing team from scoring. He was also selected as a national player for the Taiwan team in the Baseball World Cup this year. With all these honors, he should not be the only one to be proud of himself. All the players in the NCYU Baseball Team felt honored as well when they learned the news.

Baseball has always been Fu-Te Ni’s favorite. When studying in Ping Tung Senior High School, Fu-Te Ni has already joined the NCYU Baseball Team. After graduating from high school, he studied in the Agronomy Department at NCYU. With the guidance of Coach Yu-Cheng Chung who used to be an Olympic baseball player, Fu-Te Ni accumulated the potential of becoming a top player. He joined Chinatrust Whales and became a professional baseball player after he finished his service in the military.

On Oct. 1, Chinatrust Whales had a game with Uni-President Lions in the Hsing Chung Baseball Field of Taipei County. Fu-Te Ni demonstrated the result of his hard work by throwing a complete game with only 104 pitches. Among them, there were 5 strikeouts and only 3 hits.

In this game, Chinatrust Whales had only one hit, but won the game with the score 1 vs. 0. This is record winning with the fewest hit in the history of the Chinese Professional Baseball League. Fu-Te Ni certainly contributed to this new record for Chinatrust Whales.

In early October, the national coach team of the Chinese Taipei Baseball Association selected 60 players from the six teams in the professional baseball league, including Chinatrust Whales, Uni-President Lions, Macoto Cobras, Sinon Bulls, La New Bears, and Brother Elephants. Later only 24 players among them passed the screening to become national players for Baseball World Cup this year. Fu-Te Ni is one of the 24 players who are working hard to compete in the Baseball World Cup that will take place in Taichung in early November.
