Awards Ceremony of "National Contest of Elementary and Junior High Schools Incorporating IT into Teaching2008"
An awards ceremony was held on December 19 to present awards to winners of the "National Contest of Elementary and Junior High Schools Incorporating IT into Teaching 2008" and "National Contest of School Teachers and Students Developing Computer Software 2008" sponsored by the Ministry of Education. Nearly 3,000 people participated in the contests, with 164 winning prizes totaling NT$1.53 million.

Persons eligible to compete in the National Contest of Elementary and Junior High Schools Incorporating IT into Teaching 2008 were elementary and junior high school teachers, as well as teachers and students of senior high and vocational schools or above. Contestants were required to derive their creative ideas from the content of elementary and junior high school textbooks and lesson plans. A total of 1,110 teams (2,455 persons) participated in the contest this year, with 40 teams (103 persons) winning the prizes. To encourage the cities and counties to help sponsor the contest, Well-Performing City/County Awards were presented. This year, Taichung City , Chiayi City , Miaoli County , Taichung County and Tainan County won the awards. Taichung City and Chiayi City have won first and second place respectively since 2006.

Persons eligible to compete in National Contest of School Teachers and Students Developing Computer Software 2008 were teachers and students of schools across the country. Interschool collaboration was permitted. Entries, which had to be practical software applications, were divided into one of three categories - application software, system software and free software. A total of 123 teams (369 persons) participated in the contest this year, with 19 teams (61 persons) winning prizes.
