University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Libraries receive Ministry of Education grant for library development to expand collection related to Taiwan

Under the MOU, the Ministry of Education will provide the University with US$90,000 over three years to help the UNC - Chapel Hill Libraries expand the current East Asian studies collections through the development of teaching and library resources related to Taiwan. The Libraries will provide matching funding for the defined period.

During the signing ceremony, Dr. Sarah C. Michalak, University Librarian and Associate Provost of UNC - Chapel Hill, expressed her deepest appreciation to the Ministry of Education for its generous support of UNC libraries. The funding will allow the Libraries to acquire major resources that are produced in and pertain specifically to Taiwan. Particular focus will be on the acquisition of major electronic databases, e-books, and art materials from Taiwan. The MOU will also enhance the Libraries’ current engagement with the National Central Library in Taiwan.

According to Mrs. Hsi-chu Bolick, East Asian Studies Librarian, the current East Asian collections in UNC Libraries are mainly related to mainland China. As well as promoting Taiwan studies in UNC, the new funding will also promote Taiwan studies in the greater triangle academic community area and beyond.
