10 students from Kaohsiung Medical University in Taiwan visit Houston

A group of 10 students and their teacher from the School of Nursing at Kaohsiung Medical University in Taiwan arrived in Houston on June 25 for a four-week study program at the School of Nursing at the University of Texas at Houston. Director Sophie Chou of the Education Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office hosted a luncheon on July 11 to welcome them. Dr. Yu, Teng-Yuan and Dr. Hong, Yuh-Fong, both professors at the University of Texas Health Science Center also attended the luncheon.

This four-week study program is funded by Taiwan’s Ministry of Education and takes place once a year in conjunction with the University of Texas at Houston School of Nursing, located at the university’s Health Science Center. The School of Nursing arranges field trips for the students in addition to their classroom studies. They will visit several top medical centers and hospitals in Houston, such as the M.D Anderson cancer center, Memorial Herman Hospital, Texas Children’s Hospital, and The Methodist Hospital, during their 4-week program, and have opportunities to directly observe clinical practices, and get a better understanding of the medical systems in the United States.

The students from the Kaohsiung Medical University are all excited about the classes and visits. During the luncheon, Director Chou encouraged the students to embrace this opportunity to explore the diverse culture of the United States, broaden their horizons, and being a part of promoting the academic and cultural exchange between Taiwan and the United States in the future.
