In August 2016, the Vietnamese government brought Vietnam’s approximately 690 technical and vocational education (TVE institutions under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Labour – Invalids & Social Affairs (MOLISA). As a result, MOLISA needs to revise the vocational education laws and regulations, including those governing cooperation with industry, in order to shoulder this responsibility.

The Education Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Ho Chi Minh City successfully hosted the Taiwan–Vietnam Industrial Cooperation Seminar in October, 2016, so the Education Division worked with MOLISA, and the Vocational Education Association of Ho Chi Minh City to co-host a second Taiwan–Vietnam Industrial Cooperation Seminar to share details of Taiwan’s experience, on August 21, when Dr. Lin Teng-Chiao, Taiwan’s Deputy Minister of Education, was to visit Vietnam.

Nguyễn Hồng Minh, Director General of the General Directorate of Vocational Training at MOLISA; Mr. Luu Duc Tien, Vice Chairman of the Vocational Education Association of Ho Chi Minh City; and Mr. Liang Kuang-Chung, Director General of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Ho Chi Minh City each made welcoming remarks at the seminar.

Dr. Lin Teng-Chiao, Taiwan’s Deputy Minister of Education, then gave the keynote address, outlining and explaining Taiwan’s cooperative education in which TVE institutions work together with appropriate businesses to cooperatively train and educate students, and other industry cooperation and cooperative management models. A representative of the Po Chen Group then talked about the workforce needs of the Taiwanese businesses in Vietnam.

The seminar attracted around 150 people who commented that it was successful, and provided a lot of useful details. Their goal now is to set up a network for cooperation between Vietnam’s business and industry sector and TVE institutions.
