Cooperation Agreement links Secondary Schools in Belgium and Taiwan
A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between Chung Shan Industrial and Commercial School in Kaohsiung and the Ecole Hôtelière Provinciale de Namur on November 5, at a signing ceremony hosted by the Provincial Namur Government. The MOU was signed by Hsu Huei-Wen, the director of the Education Division at the Taipei Representative Office in the EU and Belgium, and by Deputy-President Jean-Marc Van Espen and Director-General Valery Zuinen of the Namur Provincial Council. Mr. Philippe Bultot, Provincial député of the Province de Namur, and Marie-France Marlière, Inspecteur General de l'enseignement Provincial de Namur, also attended.

These two secondary schools began their relationship in 2012, when a delegation of students from Kaohsiung visited Namur to learn about French cuisine on a one-week exchange programme. This was a great success, and following a year’s correspondence and consideration, the two schools decided to sign a MOU. This is unprecedented: this is the first time that a secondary school in Taiwan and a secondary school in Belgium have formally entered a “sister-school” agreement.

“We have everything to learn from you and your culture.” Mr. Bultot graciously remarked at the ceremony. This “sister-school” agreement will certainly promote their students’ skills and understanding of Taiwanese and French/Belgian cuisine, and possibilities for further collaboration are being discussed, including a delegation from the Namur Province Council and Ecole Hôtelière Provinciale de Namur visiting Kaohsiung.
