Representative Office in Moscow for the Taipei-Moscow Economic and Cultural Coordination Commission (TMECCC) Visits Universities in Samara to Seek Further Academic Cooperation
The delegation first visited the oriental cultural and education center, run by the MCU Samara Branch. The center was co-organized by Chinese Culture University and MCU Samara Branch in November, 2015, and various activities and events related to Mandarin Chinese learning and culture are often held here. Two Taiwanese Mandarin Chinese teachers are working in the university and in the center, and the university is going to recruit another Taiwanese teacher for the new academic year.
The next stop was Samara State Technical University, one of the first batch of eleven supportive universities approved by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation that have been given the responsibility of developing the economy, cultivating the needed skilled workforce required by the local region, and restraining the manpower outflow. The TMECCC visitors had the honor of visiting the geometry museum, and the petrochemical industry and food processing laboratories.
Dr. Andrei Pimenov, the prorector of Samara State Technical University met with the delegation and expressed deep interest in further cooperation with similar universities in Taiwan. He also expressed the university’s gratitude to the Mandarin teacher from Taiwan for her contributions to developing bilateral ties.
The delegation’s last stop was Samara State University. This is famous for building the airspace craft for Yury Gagarin, the cosmonaut of the former Soviet Union who was the world’s first man in space. The delegation visited the aerospace museum and the laboratory of the aeronautic department. Samara State University is also interested in seeking academic cooperation with Taiwan and the possibility of inviting Taiwanese Mandarin Chinese teachers.
Samara is well-known for aerospace and industrial development and it served as the temporary capital during World War II. It has established close ties with Taiwan in the past few years. There are currently three Mandarin teachers from Taiwan working in the region with an average of ten students, and the local administrative staff visit Taiwan each year. TMECCC looks forward to more interaction with this area through regular visits in the future.
