Representatives from the Education Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Vietnam invited to attend the 4th National Level E-learning
The 4th National Level E-learning Awards Ceremony was held at hall A of the Ministry of Education and Training in Vietnam on June 10, 2017. Nguyen Thi Nghia, the Vice Minister of Education and Training, and Nguyen Son Hai, the Director General of the ICT Department in the Ministry of Education and Training both attended the ceremony. Lee Ming, the director of the Education Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Vietnam, and Chang Shu-Ching, Education Secretary of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Vietnam were also invited to attend.

The 4th National Level E-learning Awards Ceremony attracted over 12,000 entries. Education departments from 16 provinces across Vietnam, including Hanoi, Ha Tinh, Hai Phong, Vinh Phuc, Thai Binh, Thai Nguyen, Hai Duong, Dac Lac, Con Don, Bac Ninh, Quang Bemh, Hue, Bac Giang, Lam Dong, Da Nang, and Can Tho all held preliminary local level e-learning competitions, after which 168 works were selected by the Ministry of Education and Training to win an award. Ten works won a first prize; 28 works won a second prize; 50 works won a third prize; and 80 works won an encouragement prize.

Nguyen Thi Nghia, spoke at the opening ceremony, saying that, given that we are now living in a swiftly changing world led by the innovation of technology, ICT has been applied to innovative developments in many fields. E-learning can help people to break any time and space limit to learning, and can become the gateway to lifelong learning. It will also allow people to more easily follow international trends. So far, most teachers who use ICT in Vietnam are still limited to the Microsoft Powerpoint, which serves the teachers’ needs, but the e-learning handouts competition serves as the platform for sharing and exchanging teaching ideas for teachers around the country, and it achieves the goal of ‘serving the learners’ instead of teachers. Vice Minister Nguyen Thi Nghia also gave special thanks to the sponsors, the Lawrence S.Ting Memorial Fund, and Phú Mỹ Hưng Coporation, two Taiwan-funded enterprises for their contributions to developing education in Vietnam. The Grow with IT Project has received sponsorship of more than 80 billion Vietnamese Dong.

Lee Ming, the director of the Education Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Vietnam was invited to award the second prize, together with Nguyen Son Hai, the Director General of the ICT Department of the Ministry of Education and Training, and Nguyen Thi Nghia, the Vice Minister of Education and Training awarded the first prize. Lee Ming commented that, a cooperative model such as this, in which Taiwan-funded enterprises sponsor educational development in Vietnam is a very good one, especially given that Taiwan’s information and communication technology (ICT) is listed as foremost in the world. Nevertheless, there are still several fields which have great potential for development, for example ICT teacher training, and Taiwan can share its successful experiences of promoting ICT education in remote areas with Vietnam.
