MOA to Continue the Research Chair in Taiwan Studies Signed with the University of Ottawa
Kung Chung-chen, the Representative at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Canada (TECO in Canada) signed the MOA on behalf of the Department of International and Cross-strait Education, and Dr. Marcel Merette, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, and Dr. Francois Carrier, Director of the Office of International Research signed on behalf of the University of Ottawa.
Under this three-year MOA, the Department will provide funding support to the Faculty of Social Sciences for its Research Chair in Taiwan Studies to continue to enhance and further develop the quality of research and teaching in Taiwan Studies in the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Ottawa. The Faculty of Social Sciences of University of Ottawa will teach classes, conduct lectures, organize visiting activities, and purchase materials on Taiwan Studies for the next three years. A further aim is to make knowledge of the politics, economy, external relations, history, society, languages, and culture of Taiwan more broadly available, for example through an annual public lecture series.
This collaboration also provides a framework for the development and implementation of exchanges of academic staff between the University of Ottawa and universities in Taiwan.
Their expertise will then be able to be tapped to teach relevant modules for postgraduate programs in their respective institutes.
