International Day at Queen Mary University of London in the UK

Date:
International Day at Queen Mary University of London in the UK
An International Day was held on November 24, 2017 on the campus of Queen Mary University of London to encourage interaction between international students. It was organised by the Queen Mary International Office, and the Taiwanese Society committee participated, with support from the Education Division of the Taipei Representative Office in the UK. The Education Division organised a Study in Taiwan booth for the event to promote Taiwan as a study destination for international students and to promote Taiwanese culture.
As a new year was fast approaching, the International Day Taiwan booth featured many traditional customs. The origins of the Chinese Spring Festival were explained and people could try the traditional Taiwanese drink, tangyuan. Leaflets were available to give people a better understanding of Taiwan as a tourism destination, and they could also obtain information about study options in Taiwan and funding assistance available for students.
Mr Ouyang Yen-Heng, Director of the Education Division of the Taipei Representative Office in the UK, attended the International Day event and extended a warm welcome to the participants. He explained why Taiwan is an ideal place to experience Chinese culture and learn Mandarin and expressed his hope that the students present would one day have the opportunity to visit Taiwan themselves, and benefit from the vibrant learning environment and enjoy experiencing Taiwan’s rich culture, diverse landscape, friendly environment, high-quality education, free society, and excellent standard of living.
International Day was a great success, achieving the vision and aims of the organising committee and providing an enjoyable and educational event for students at Queen Mary University of London.
