New England Chinese Teacher Association holds its 2018 Spring Seminar at Wayland High School

The New England Chinese Teacher Association held its 2018 Spring Seminar at Wayland High School in Massachusetts on March 24. Four speakers shared details of their practical experience in the classroom: Mr. Chang Futseng introduced some classroom activities to improve fluency; Dr. Liu Shiqi talked about giving students some knowledge of Chinese herbal medication; Ms. Jian Shu-Ling talked about ways to combine teaching Mandarin with culture; and Ms. Chang Chiun-Fan led a Q&A session and encouraged the attendants to share their experiences.

Rose Chen, the Director of the Education Division at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Boston, attended the seminar and also addressed the meeting. She told the teachers about the practical assistance that the Ministry of Education offers to teachers and students alike, including programs for Chinese teacher groups to visit Taiwan for short-term training, Chinese language teacher and teacher assistant recruitment, the Huayu Enrichment Scholarships, and the Mandarin On-the-Go in Taiwan program, as well as the Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language (TOCFL). Rose encouraged the teachers to contact the Education Division of TECO-Boston if they would like to apply for any of these, and the teachers responded enthusiastically.
