Study in Taiwan Event at the University of Central Lancashire in the UK

As part of its ongoing efforts to promote Taiwan as a study destination for students of institutions of higher education in the UK, the Education Division of the Taipei Representative Office in the UK held a Study in Taiwan presentation at the University of Central Lancashire on Wednesday, March 7, 2018.

The university’s School of Language and Global Studies is committed to expanding its Taiwan-related programmes, and a number of lecturers and professors from the department attended a lunch to welcome Mr. Ouyang Yen-Heng, the Director of the Education Division, hosted by Dr. Daniel Waller, the Head of School.

The presentation was organised, publicised, and conducted by Dr. Niki Alsford, Reader in Asia Pacific Studies. This event was widely promoted throughout the university, resulting in an impressive turnout of more than thirty students.

Following a welcome speech and introductions, Mr. Ouyang delivered a PowerPoint presentation extolling the virtues of Taiwan both as a place to visit, and as a place to learn Mandarin or undertake degree studies. He explained the criteria, application procedures, administrative processes and financial provisions of the Ministry of Education’s Huayu Enrichment Scholarships and Taiwan Scholarships in detail.

Ms. Chen Ya-hui, from the Administration Division of the Taipei Representative Office in the U.K., then talked about the Youth Mobility Scheme and the Taiwan Fellowship program. The event ended with an informal reception giving the participants an opportunity to ask questions and help themselves to the brochures and other information material provided by the Education Division.
