2018 Taiwan Further Education Fair in Malaysia
The Taiwan Education Center in Malaysia organized a series of education fairs there, from March 25 to 30, 2018, to promote Taiwan’s higher education and encourage more Malaysian students to undertake post-secondary studies in Taiwan.
The 2018 Taiwan Further Education Fair was held in five cities, located in three different states of Malaysia - Johor, Selangor, and Pahang - at Foon Yew High School in Kulai in Johor; the Chinese High School in Batu Pahat in Johor; the Hokkien Association in Klang in Selangor; Dewan Seaview in Tanjung Sepat in Selangor; and at the Bentong Chinese Town Hall in Bentong in Pahang. The fairs were jointly organized with the assistance of each local Taiwan Alumni Association and supported by the State Education Department.
Almost a hundred representatives from 34 universities in Taiwan flew to Malaysia to take part in the five days of education fairs this year.
The fairs were well timed as they were held around the time of the release of the national high school graduation exam results (SPM, and STPM). This is a time when students and parents alike are eager to collect information about higher education opportunities.
Mr. Chang Jiunn-Jiun, the Director of the Education Division at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Malaysia was invited to speak at the opening ceremony of the fair. During his address, he advised the young people visiting the fair to take this opportunity to gather information about the universities that they are interested in, meet face-to-face with the representatives of institutions of higher education to help them to decide on the most suitable course to enroll in, and to have a better understanding of Taiwan’s higher education system, especially in the vital field of vocational education.
He pointed out that the number of Malaysian students studying in Taiwan has been rising in the past few years. According to the latest statistics released by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of China (Taiwan), there are currently 17,079 Malaysian students studying in Taiwan.
