Education Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Ho Chi Minh City holds 2019 Taiwan–Vietnam International Cooperation Conference

The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Ho Chi Minh City (TECO) organized a Taiwan–Vietnam International Cooperation Conference, held on January 21, to promote Taiwan’s education, and the government’s New Southbound Policy, and facilitate cooperation between universities in Taiwan and Vietnam. This was the third in the last three years.
Approximately 80 people attended this year’s conference. They included 30 presidents, deans, vice deans, and directors from 22 universities in Vietnam, 40 representatives of 25 universities in Taiwan, and staff from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Ho Chi Minh City, including its Education Division.  
Arrangements were also made for the participants from Taiwan to visit Ho Chi Minh City University of Science, and Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, two of the national universities there. This gave them opportunities to personally discuss further cooperation. The rector of Ho Chi Minh City University of Science also hosted a luncheon for the delegation.
Mr. Wen Cheng Chung, Director General of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Ho Chi Minh City gave the welcoming speech at the conference. Ms. Ou Chi-Hsi, Education Attaché at the Education Division of TECO in Ho Chi Minh City, then gave a presentation to the participants from Taiwan, about Vietnam’s education policies and its education system. 
The Education Division of TECO had invited Đàm Sao Mai, Head of Research Management and International Affairs at Industrial University of HCM City; Lê Quốc Bảo, Head of the Division of Events and International Programs in the Department of External Relations at Vietnam National University - Ho Chi Minh City; and Hsu Hsieh-Lung, Vice President for International Affairs at National Central University in Taiwan to share their views on Taiwan –Vietnam relations and give suggestions regarding educational cooperation. Each of them spoke highly of Taiwan’s education and society. Moreover, they encouraged universities in Vietnam to work closely with universities in Taiwan.  
After the presentations, the representatives of universities in Taiwan and Vietnam were given time to move about for further discussion with those present. Many engaged in close discussion about substantial cooperation between their respective universities. They feel that they have met ideal partner institutions and have already commenced setting up cooperative programs. This third Taiwan–Vietnam International Cooperation Conference was a great success.
