Education Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Ho Chi Minh City and Universities from Taiwan Promote Education in Taiwan at Student Recruitment Day

Ms. Ou Chi-Hsi, with Dr. Le Viet Dung, Deputy Rector of Can Tho University, and student interns and staff

The Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training and the Youth News host a Student Counseling Day at Can Tho University each year to help Vietnamese high school students to make the best choice about where to undertake their tertiary level studies. The annual Student Counseling Day has been held for more than 15 years now, and it usually attracts from 15,000 to 20,000 high school students and parents. It was originally scheduled to be held in March this year but was then postponed to the end of June, as a result of the COVID 19 pandemic.

Many universities in Taiwan had registered to attend but most then withdrew because they wouldn’t be able to send personnel to attend because of COVID 19. However, three universities—National Pingtung University, Yuanpei University of Medical Technology, and Dayeh University—took part by asking their local alumni and sister university to assist them by distributing information about the university and recruitment.

Personnel from the Education Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Ho Chi Minh City attended the Student Counseling Day and handed out more than 10,000 pamphlets, giving the students information written in Vietnamese about Taiwan’s education system and about studying in Taiwan, along with information materials provided by individual educational institutions in Taiwan.

This year’s Student Counseling Day was very productive and the local students who took part found it very helpful. They are very impressed by Taiwan’s education system and asked many question about how to lodge applications.

The Education Division will be holding a Study in Taiwan Seminar in the next few months at which

interested people can find out more about the wide range of opportunities for studying in Taiwan, and scholarships available.
