On 31 July, 2020, the Vel Tech Rangarajan Dr. Sagunthala R&D Institute of Science and Technology in Chennai in India signed a memorandum of understanding with the Education Division of Taipei Economic and Culture Centre in India (TECC) to strengthen cooperation and set up a Taiwan Education Centre to promote bilateral collaboration.
In the past few years, students from different departments have enjoyed learning Mandarin with Taiwanese teachers on the Vel Tech campus. The management of the institute appreciated that each Taiwanese teacher was recruited after a series of assessments and interviews, thereby ensuring that quality education would be provided to the students at Vel Tech. The signing of the MOU to establish a Taiwan Education Centre within the campus represents a new milestone. It will provide information about studying in Taiwan and scholarship opportunities, in addition to Mandarin courses.
“Dr. S. Sivaperumal, the Director for International Relations at Vel Tech organized an International Alumni Meet in Taiwan on 8th December last year, and more than 80 alumni who are undertaking degrees in Taiwan attended the meeting. We look forward to having more students from Vel Tech study in Taiwan in the near future”, said Mr. Chen Li-ying, Director of the Education Division, at TECC in India.
The Education Division hopes to collaborate with outstanding Indian universities in the coming years to establish Mandarin courses and Taiwan Education Centres, to provide a range of new opportunities to Indian students.
