The Taiwan Studies Program at the University of Washington Strengthened

Date:
William Lavely holding the Memorandum of Understanding for the Taiwan Study Program

In August, the University of Washington and the Education Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural in San Francisco—on behalf of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of China (Taiwan)—signed a Memorandum of Understanding to continue and further enhance the university’s Taiwan Study Program.
Each of the parties will cooperatively fund the Taiwan Studies Program at the University of Washington for another three years, from 2020 till 2023. In particular, the university will expand the Taiwan Studies course offerings; establish undergraduate and graduate degree programs in Taiwan Studies; and offer graduate fellowships in Taiwan Studies. The University of Washington Press has already inaugurated a scholarly monograph series “Taiwan and the World”, and the first publications are expected in 2021.
