Keng Chung-Yung and other participants from TMECCC, Phison Electronics Corp., and Moscow Institute of Electronic Technology during the webinar

In late September, 2021, the Education Division of the Taipei–Moscow Economic and Cultural Coordination Commission (TMECCC), the Moscow Institute of Electronic Technology, and a Taiwanese IT company, Phison Electronics Corp., jointly held a webinar entitled: “A 5G Enabled Intelligent Data Society.”

The webinar, which was initiated by Phison, co-hosted by the Moscow Institute of Electronic Technology, and organized by the Education Division at TMECCC, took 6 months to prepare. The Education Division also invited two other major Russian universities, Moscow City University and Lobachevskiy University to participate. More than 200 people took part online. 

Keng Chung-Yung, Head of the Representative Office in Moscow for TMECCC spoke at the opening. He pointed out that the webinar was providing a platform for experts in the IT field from industry and from universities in Russia and in Taiwan to share their expertise and exchange ideas. Russia has advantages in basic scientific research areas that can complement the work being done in six core strategic industries, promoted by the Taiwan government.
The Moscow Institute of Electronic Technology and Phison then each gave presentations on their organization and on IC design and applications in the field of network storage. The Economic Division, Science and Technology Divisiion, and Education Division at TMECCC also took advantage of this webinar opportunity to promote current cooperation projects, such as Contact Taiwan, and scientific research grants and internship programs.

William Lu, Secretary of the Education Division at TMECCC gave the final presentation, outlining many of the ongoing scholarships, internships and grants available from the Taiwan government and Taiwanese universities. These include Taiwan Scholarships for degree studies, Huayu Enrichment Scholarships for Chinese language study, ICDF Scholarships, Short-Term Research Awards, Taiwan Fellowships, MOE APEC Scholarships, Mandarin Chinese Internships for Foreign Students, the Taiwan Experience Education Programs (TEEP), and Global Internship Facilitation of Taiwan (GIFT). He also outlined the Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language (TOCFL) language proficiency tests and encouraged Russian students and teachers to visit Taiwan to study or conduct short-term research after the pandemic ends. His presentation received a warm response.
