The Education Division of the Taipei–Moscow Economic and Cultural Coordination Commission (TMECCC) is doing its best to match more schools in Russia with suitable schools in Taiwan to widen the scope of academic cooperation in accordance with Taiwan’s International Education for Primary and Secondary Schools policy. Moscow Municipal School No. 1293—listed among the best schools in Moscow—is the second Moscow Municipal School that is open to discussing the possibility of bilateral interaction with Taiwan.

In mid-December, 2021, William Lu, Secretary of the Education Division of TMECCC had an online meeting with Irina Truc, the director of Moscow Municipal School No. 1293, and other personnel from the school for initial discussions about possible cooperation in 2022. The meeting was organized with the help of a Mandarin Chinese teacher working in the Department of World Politics at Moscow State University, which William Lu visited in late April, 2021.

During the meeting, Natalia Klimova, the deputy director of the school gave a presentation which highlighted features of the school’s approach to in-depth teaching in many humanitarian, natural, social/economic, technological, and universal subjects, including foreign languages.

William Lu then gave a presentation outlining the nature and models of bilateral cooperation between schools that have been implemented in the past three years, such as: Online Language Exchange events in Chinese or in English, webinars, Roundtable Discussion on Methodolodies for English Teaching, and so on. He suggested starting potential cooperation with joint online language exchanges or cultural events because these are easier to organize and they have been proven to be quite helpful for increasing mutual understanding.

He told the school officials that he looked forward to having an opportunity to link Moscow Municipal School No. 1293 with a senior secondary or junior high school in Taiwan for all kinds of exchanges. Irina Truc, the director of the school replied that the school would send their proposals for cooperation to the Education Division after the Russian New Year vacation.
