A Successful “Study in Taiwan” Tour Across Southern U.S. States

There are many options available now for study abroad, so the Education Division of the Taipei Economic and Culture Office in Houston held a series of Study in Taiwan information sessions together with 12 universities in the southern United States, in order to showcase Taiwan as an ideal study abroad destination and inform students about scholarships available through Ministry of Education scholarship programs.

Over the last three months, Study in Taiwan presentations have been given virtually and on-site at:

  • Mississippi College
  • The University of Colorado Boulder
  • Rice University
  • The University of Oklahoma
  • Saint Louis University
  • The University of St. Thomas
  • Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi
  • The University of Texas at Arlington
  • Texas State University
  • The University of Texas at Austin
  • Tulane University
  • The University of Texas at Tyler.

During each Study in Taiwan presentation, Andrea Yang, Director of the Education Division, provided information about Taiwan and its universities and outlined many reasons for choosing Taiwan as a study destination. These include the various scholarships offered by the Ministry of Education, such as the Taiwan Scholarship program for degree studies, and the Huayu Enrichment Scholarship program for learning Mandarin Chinese. She also talked about the Taiwan Foreign English Teacher Program.

Hazem Saleh, a 2021 Huayu Enrichment Scholarship recipient now working at Texas Instruments as a supply chain analyst, shared interesting details of his experience of what studying and living in Taiwan was like. He strongly encouraged students at the universities to seize the adventures awaiting them in Taiwan.

The Study in Taiwan presentation and information tour has proven popular. More than 300 students attended in person and thousands of students were reached through recordings of the presentations that were made and circulated by teaching staff and global education office personnel of the different universities.
