TECO-LA Invites Students to the Taiwan Education Fair
The Taiwan Education Fair (https://edufair.aicee.org.tw/) is a 2-month online fair specially designed to give international students information about studying in Taiwan and the high-quality higher education and Mandarin Chinese language learning opportunities that Taiwan offers. The Fair was organized by the non-profit Association of International Cultural and Educational Exchange Taiwan, in collaboration with 45 universities and 16 Mandarin Chinese language centers in Taiwan.
From May 1 until June 30, the online Fair provides prospective international students with a one-stop website to assist them find comprehensive information about all the participating universities and language centers, the courses and programs they offer, including courses and programs fully taught in English, Mandarin Chinese language programs at all levels, and scholarship opportunities, and prospective students can post questions directly to any of the participating universities. There are also testimonies by international students, and links to social media such as Facebook, YouTube and Instagram where they can interact.
Louis M. Huang, Director General of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Los Angeles, was one of the dignitaries invited to make opening remarks for the Fair, said “Taiwan is a country that upholds the values of freedom, democracy, respect for fundamental human rights, and the rule of law. These core values are very critical in cultivating a diverse, inclusive, innovative, free and democratic environment for researching, transferring knowledge and learning Mandarin Chinese.
Taiwan and the US launched the Taiwan-US Education Initiative on December 3, 2020, aimed at strengthening educational exchanges and expanding access to language instruction, while safeguarding academic freedom. As interest in studying abroad and learning Mandarin Chinese language remains strong among American and international students, Taiwan can and should play a key role in addressing that interest.”
He mentioned that Taiwan has constantly been described by international friends as friendly, safe, convenient and dynamic; that Taiwanese people are open-minded and love to engage with international friends, Taiwan is affordable to live in and the standard of living is very high, health-care and transportation in Taiwan are world-class… These are some of the many factors establishing Taiwan as one of Asia’s leading higher education hubs.
He also mentioned the Taiwan Scholarships and Huayu Enrichment Scholarships provided by the government to encourage outstanding international students to pursue their degree studies or learn Chinese in Taiwan. And that many universities also offer scholarships. Nearly one million international students from different regions and with different cultural backgrounds and religious beliefs have studied in Taiwan in the past ten years, and they all found their study journeys rewarding and enjoyable, and consider Taiwan a truly incredible country to call home. He encouraged students considering studying abroad to get out of their comfort zone, expand their horizons and experience new cultures.
He concluded his remarks saying, “YOU are welcome to join the tens of thousands of international students pursuing a degree or learning Mandarin Chinese in Taiwan. Studying in Taiwan is investing in your future! We invite you to see for yourself and experience all that Taiwan has to offer!”
