Taiwan and the State of Michigan Renew their Commitment to Education Cooperation
With the assistance of the Education Division of the Taipei Economic & Cultural Office in Chicago, the memorandum of understanding on education related cooperation between the Michigan Department of Education and the Department of International and Cross-Strait Education of Taiwan’s Ministry of Education was renewed on June 28, 2022, continuing many years of friendly educational cooperation and exchanges.
The MOU expresses the commitment of both parties to supporting bilateral educational cooperation between educational institutions from kindergarten to senior high school (K-12) level, and promoting cultural and language exchanges, and implementing teacher exchange programs, to increase mutual understanding and appreciation of each other’s culture and language.
Taiwan’s Ministry of Education will assist the Michigan Department of Education to select qualified Mandarin language teachers to teach in Michigan’s schools, so as to provide more opportunities for students in Michigan to learn Chinese, and promote mutual understanding and appreciation of each other’s culture and language.
The Education Division said that it was an honor to facilitate the renewal of the MOU that will continue cooperation between Taiwan’s Ministry of Education and Michigan Department of Education. Its emphasis is on promoting cooperation between Taiwan and Michigan in the field of language teaching and basic Mandarin Chinese language ability will help students in Michigan improve their international mobility. As well as assisting Michigan to recruit highly qualified Mandarin language teachers, Taiwan can help provide language teaching curriculum material and language teaching related technical assistance. Taiwan looks forward to expanding the field of exchanges and cooperation with Michigan.
Dr. Michael Rice, Michigan’s State Superintendent of Public Instruction, said that he is very happy to continue to cooperate with Taiwan in language education, and he looks forward to the promotion of the language teacher exchange program that will help Michigan’s students go global.
The renewal of the memorandum of understanding will further strengthen the educational cooperation between Taiwan and Michigan. Both parties look forward to providing more diverse exchange opportunities for students in Taiwan and in Michigan, and this in turn will enhance language and culture related cooperation and interaction.
