Dr. Lee Yen Yi and Superintendent Brian Schroeder with the signed MOUs

A memorandum of understanding between the Department of International and Cross-strait Education of Taiwan’s Ministry of Education, and the Wyoming State Department of Education was signed on November 17, 2022 in Taipei City (November 16 in Wyoming), in order to promote educational cooperation and exchanges between Taiwan and the State of Wyoming.  
It was signed by Dr. Lee Yen Yi, the Director General of the Ministry of Education’s Department of International and Cross-strait Education, and by Brian Schroeder, the Superintendent of Public Instruction for the State of Wyoming, and the signing ceremony was attended by Daniel Chen, Director General of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Seattle, virtually, and by Luke Martin, Cultural Affairs Officer at the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT).
Superintendent Schroeder took part in the signing ceremony during a 4-day visit to Taiwan. He was the first State Superintendent to visit Taiwan from the US since strict border controls were lifted in October this year. During his stay, he also visited three universities—National Taipei Education University, National Taipei University of Science & Technology, and National Taiwan University, a junior high school, and vocational and technical high schools, where he interacted with both teachers and students, and he met with government education administrators and representatives of other educational organizations, including a community college. 
The schools he visited included Kaohsiung Municipal Nanzih Senior High School which signed a memorandum of understanding with Black Butte High School, a senior high school in Wyoming, in August this year, and National Chiayi Industrial Vocational High School, which has been working on establishing partnerships with schools in Wyoming. 
This is the first MOU for educational cooperation signed between the state government of Wyoming and Taiwan’s Ministry of Education, and it represents their shared commitment and willingness to cooperate to promote mutual understanding, and to support and facilitate the development of collaboration between Taiwan and Wyoming in the education sector. 
Superintendent Schroeder commented that the Wyoming Department of Education will work together with the MOE to achieve common goals, that can include encouraging elementary and secondary teachers and students in Taiwan and Wyoming to learn about each other’s education systems and cultures, and learning each other’s language.
This is another shining example of education cooperation blossoming under the U.S. –Taiwan Education Initiative.
