An online ceremony launching food and agricultural education (agri-food education) cooperation between Chinese Taipei School Kuala Lumpur and Mitagri Co., Ltd. was held on October 31, 2022. The cooperation is designed to promote food and agriculture related education programs in Malaysia, and both parties hope that the implementation of the education cooperation program will help build the popularity of Taiwan’s produce and its reputation in Malaysia, and contribute to expanding further into international markets. Fresh green ponkans were delivered to the ceremony venues in Taiwan and in Malaysia as examples of Taiwan’s high-quality agricultural produce and introduced during the ceremony. Green ponkans, a sweet, refreshing citrus, are one of many distinctive quality fruits grown in Tainan which are now “going global”.
The dignitaries at the ceremony included Ms. Lien Yu-Ping, Deputy Representative at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Malaysia, Dr. Huang Ching-Cheng, Deputy Minister of the Council of Agriculture, Dr. Hung Chung-Hsiu, the chairman of Mitagri Co., Ltd., Dr. Nicole Lee Yen-Yi, the Director-General of the Department of International and Cross-strait Education of Taiwan’s Ministry of Education, Mr. Tu Shu Yao, the chair of the school board, Ms. Cheng Ya Fen, the principal of the school, Mr. Ma Oon Kwong, the director of PWO Industries Sdn. Bhd, Mr. Bob Chuang, secretary of the Taipei Investors’ Association in Penang, and Ms. Charlin Chang, Director of the Education Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Malaysia.
In her remarks, Deputy Representative Lien said that Taiwan’s agricultural performance is outstanding and Taiwan’s Council of Agriculture promotes food and agricultural education. This is the foundation of agricultural development and also considered to be the best form of agricultural marketing. Promoting and developing food and agricultural education at Chinese Taipei School Kuala Lumpur will increase students’ knowledge of diet and nutrition, and the links between people’s diet, the environment, and agriculture. It will also strengthen consumers’ support of Taiwan’s agriculture and agricultural products.
Dr. Nicole Lee Yen-Yi expressed confidence that the collaboration between Chinese Taipei School Kuala Lumpur and Mitagri Co., Ltd. and the introduction of agri-food education at the school would give the teachers and students a better knowledge of Taiwan’s society and environment. She hoped that agri-food education can be fully incorporated into the school curriculum to help the students cultivate good eating habits and learn to cherish food in their childhood.
The school’s cooperation with Mitagri Co., Ltd. will let the students build good memories of enjoying Taiwan’s fine food products from an early age and at the same time give them a deeper understanding and appreciation of Taiwan’s agriculture. Chinese Taipei School KL will be supplied with agricultural products from Taiwan, in conjunction with the expansion of the export of fruits and food ingredients to Malaysia, to enjoy and share with local people.
