MOU signed with PMC Tech in India will Strengthen Educational Ties
The Education Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Centre (TECC) in India entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with PMC Tech (Er. Perumal Manimekalai College of Engineering) in Hosur in Tamil Nadu on June 6, 2024. It was signed by M r. Peters Chen, Director of the Education Division and by Mr. P. Kumar, Chairman of the Institution.
PMC Tech is situated near Bengaluru, in close proximity to factories of Delta and Foxconn two major Taiwanese private businesses, and it stands to benefit significantly from this collaboration with the Ministry of Education. The focus of the cooperation will be on providing Mandarin language courses for engineering students at PMC Tech by equipping them with language skills that are increasingly important in the global job market, and fostering industry-academia cooperation by enhancing the number of Mandarin-speaking skilled professionals in the region. PMC Tech will open a Taiwan Education Centre on its campus, with a teacher from Taiwan who will teach Mandarin courses. This language teacher will also facilitate communications between the host institution in India and educational institutions in Taiwan and provide the students in India with information about opportunities for further studies in Taiwan and scholarships available.
Speaking after the signing, Mr. P. Kumar, Chairman of the Institution, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership: “We are delighted to collaborate with Taiwan’s Ministry of Education. This initiative aligns with our vision of providing a holistic education and preparing our students for global challenges. The Mandarin courses will undoubtedly add a new dimension to our curriculum and benefit our students immensely.” The dignitaries present at the signing ceremony included Director Prof. N. Sudhakara, and principals Dr. R. Saravana, and Prof. N. Balasubramaniam, as well as faculty members and students.
The Mandarin courses that will be offered will help to bridge cultural and educational gaps and prepare students for future opportunities in Taiwan and beyond. This collaboration will enhance students’ language proficiency and also open doors to potential career prospects with leading Taiwanese companies. The Taiwan Education Center will serve to increase friendly bilateral education relations between Taiwan and India that may yield tangible results in advancing economic cooperation.
