2025 Sport Event Taiwan Workshop Launch Forum to grandly take the stage in combination with 2025 TaiSPO

Domestic and international experts and scholars share benchmark case studies to assist event organizers align with international mainstream values.

To assist international event organizers improve the quality of their events, align with international mainstream values, and realize the vision of event branding, the Sports Administration (SA) plans to hold five international forums this year (2025). These forums will invite international speakers to Taiwan to share their knowledge. The first forum will be held on March 27, 2025. In addition to the launch ceremony of the series of events, a memorandum of understanding (MOU) will be signed with various international organizations. More than 10 domestic and international experts and scholars will also share their experiences. Aligned with the theme of the year "City Branding X Sports Technology," and in collaboration with the Taiwan External Trade Development Council’s "TaiSPO 2025 Sports and Fitness Taiwan," the event will be grandly held on the main stage on the first floor of Hall 2 of Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center.

Since 2021, the SA has promoted the Sport Event Taiwan Workshop (SET Workshop). It seeks to enhance sports event quality and international visibility through international connections, benchmark learning and facilitating experience exchange among sports event organizers, aiming to promote sports event transformation, development, and increase the international attention received. The launch forum will see five parties sign an MOU: the "FUN Sports in Taiwan" program, the Asian Association for Sport Management (AASM), the ASPN HYPE Global Virtual Accelerator, the Japan Sports Tourism Association (JSTA), and the Thai Mass Participation Sports Trade Association (TMPSA). This MOU aims to establish a mutual cooperation relationship, nurture deeper exchanges between domestic and international cities and related units, and increase cooperation opportunities.

Focusing on the annual theme "City Branding X Sports Technology," domestic speakers will include Taiwan’s Ambassador-at-large Sophiyah Liu (Liu Po-Chun) and Lin Che-Hung, Executive Director of the World Masters Games 2025 Taipei & New Taipei City, who will present keynote speeches. International speakers include the  Chairman of the JSTA, Munehiko Harada, who will discuss post-2025 Osaka-Kansai Expo sports city development strategies; Mr. Rut Jiroajvanichakorn, President of the TMPSA, who will share the combination of large-scale sports events with tourism in line with this year's "Amazing Thailand Grand Tourism & Sports Year 2025" policy; and Li Neo Tay, COO of IGNITX, who will explore sports tourism by integrating local culture into an international marathon.

Also, João de Saldanha, CEO of the UK’s One Hundred Group, will introduce how immersive media and state-of-the-art technology is used in endurance races to help athletes finish the world's toughest ultramarathons. Lin Bo-Heng, CEO of the ASPN HYPE Global Virtual Accelerator Taiwan, will share successful cases of integrating sports events with sports technology along with partners from South Korea, Australia, and Hong Kong; through practical experience, they will promote event branded development and stimulate cross-domain potential for sports events, also for the creation of distinctive Taiwan-branded sports events

The SA stated that shaping internationally recognized sports event brands for Taiwan is one of President Lai’s key sports policies and a core focus for the Ministry of Sports, which will be established in August this year. Through international forums and themed initiatives, Taiwan aims to deepen the development and promotion of signature city-based sports events, introduce innovative sports technologies, and boost international competitiveness. The goal is to enhance the brand value of these events, align them with global standards, and elevate Taiwan’s presence on the international stage. By nurturing close cooperation between events and cities, Taiwan's international sports events will mature, also contributing to the growth of city tourism and economic development.
