Date:

Taiwan has long been a favored destination for students from Southeast Asia, attracted by its excellent teaching and research personnel, diverse academic resources, and globally oriented learning environment. In 2024, Taiwan hosted more than 120,000 international students, including nearly 5,000 students from Thailand, making Thailand the sixth-largest source country for international students.

The Taiwan Higher Education Fair and Job Counseling 2025 was held on August 30 and 31 at Samyan Mitrtown Hall in Bangkok, to enhance the visibility of Taiwan’s higher education in Thailand, education related cooperation between Taiwan and Thailand, and promote academia–industry collaboration. A warm invitation was extended to Thai students, educators, and parents to attend and explore the exciting opportunities that Taiwan’s higher education system and employment landscape have to offer and to provide Thai students with comprehensive information on study opportunities and career prospects in Taiwan

The Taiwan Higher Education Fair was organized by the Taiwan Education Center in Thailand under the guidance of Taiwan’s Ministry of Education. Thirty-nine leading universities in Taiwan took part, providing overviews of academic programs, admission consultations, scholarship information, and one-on-one guidance for Thai people wanting to pursue higher education in Taiwan.

The Steering Committee for the Test of Proficiency–Huayu (SC-TOP) also took part and provided information about the Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language (TOCFL), to assist students wanting to study in Taiwan prepare to satisfy the Mandarin language proficiency requirements. And attendees could take part in a lucky draw, with the top prize being a free three-month in-person Mandarin language course at a certified Taiwan Mandarin Learning Center.

Twelve Taiwan-affiliated enterprises operating in Thailand also took part. They set up booths where students could consult their representatives for details about internship and employment possibilities, and help students to plan a professional career path after studying in Taiwan.

Peter Sha-li Lan 藍夏禮, Taiwan’s Representative in Thailand based at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Thailand, spoke at the opening of the Taiwan Higher Education Fair and said that education related cooperation between Taiwan and Thailand has been steadily deepening. A memorandum of understanding (MOU) on cooperation between Taiwan and Thailand in technical and vocational education and training fields came into effect on June 20, 2025. It promotes bilateral collaboration in technical and vocational education that will include providing Thai students with more opportunities to obtain hands-on training and job-ready skills in Taiwan—and this will lay a solid foundation for ongoing innovation and technology related collaboration between Taiwan and Thailand.

He also mentioned the Taiwan–Thailand International Talent Circulation Base which held its inauguration ceremony the day before, on August 29, at the KX Knowledge Exchange Center in Bangkok, as part of the Ministry of Education’s Action Plan for Recruiting and Retaining International Students. The Base will offer preparatory Chinese courses, academic exchange platforms, and resources for international cooperation, which will all assist more Thai students to undertake higher education and work in Taiwan. It will also facilitate collaboration between universities in Taiwan and in Thailand, as part of the Ministry of Education’s International Industrial Talents Education Special Program (INTENSE Program).
