Spreading happiness by reducing the digital gap between city and country
In this era of the knowledge economy, knowledge itself is power, and all countries have been actively promoting educational programs to harness the power of global information for future generations. Taiwan is no exception.

Tu Cheng-Sheng, the Minister of Education, said that reducing the digital gap between the city and country will enable students in remote areas to enjoy the same information and learning resources. This helps bring about social justice, and the Ministry of Education has long considered it a focus for policy implementation. Minister Tu said that the MOE will also actively find opportunities to get involved in digital endeavors for these children.

Since 2001, the Ministry of Education has been actively promoting the project of "Reducing the Digital Gap between City and Country High Schools and Elementary Schools." The ministry has successfully organized more than 400 teams of social service volunteers among university, college, high school and vocational school students to teach basic computer skills in remote areas. These students have already done volunteer work in more than 800 high and elementary schools with excellent results.

"Reducing the Digital Gap between City and Country" is a task that is greatly imbued with social concern and implements concepts of social justice. It is also full of challenges. Besides public sector investments, it also needs the support of private enterprises and NGOs. Minister Tu has expressed his appreciation for their help and hopes that more organizations offer their resources and professional expertise to help bring about "digital happiness" for the children in remote areas.
