Workshop to enhance leadership and strengthen links between Taiwanese Student Associations

A workshop for Taiwanese Student Associations - also called Republic of China (ROC) Student Associations - in the western and southern regions of the US was held on September 28th, 2013 at Almansor Court in Alhambra City, California. This is an annual event which is funded by the Ministry of Education, and organized by its overseas office, the Education Division of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Los Angeles.
The participants included around 50 presidents and staff of ROC/Taiwanese Student Associations from 20 universities and colleges located in Hawaii, New Mexico, and Southern California. This year’s workshop began with an address by the Director General of TECO-Los Angeles, Bruce J.D. Linghu, and this was followed by a briefing about different divisions within TECO. The aim was to help the attendees to better understand TECO’s functions, and to be fully aware of the services that are available to them, and other Taiwanese students at their various universities.
The Director of the Education Division, Rebecca Lan presented participants with a copy of the “Handbook for Presidents of Student Associations” during the workshop. This handbook was compiled by the Education Division with the purpose of sharing past presidents’ experience, and providing information about the various resources available.
Two keynote speeches were presented in the afternoon: “Self-Management in the 21st Century”,　and “Supportive leadership -- The new leadership style in the 21st Century”. Leadership and links between the participants were well-promoted and fostered by the workshop.
