12 students from the Central Police University in Taiwan visit Houston
This three-week English immersion program at UHD was developed under the Bayou Connection Program and takes place once or twice a year. The Bayou Connection Program was established by Dr. Hsiao-Ming Wang in 2002 to promote academic cooperation between UHD and its counterparts in Taiwan. To date, 12 students from Taiwan have received a master’s degree from UHD, and more than 150 students from Taiwan have visited UHD for the short-term intensive English courses under this program.
In addition to the intensive English classes, the UHD arranged several field trips. During their three-week stay, the students visited the police station, fire department, Municipal Court, and a jail, to get a fuller understanding of the criminal justice system in Houston. The students from the Central Police University were all excited about the classes and the trips. During the welcome dinner party, Director Chou encouraged them to embrace this opportunity to explore the diverse culture of the United States, broaden their horizons, and play their part in promoting academic and cultural exchanges between Taiwan and the United States in the future.
