The above-mentioned delegation stood out from the 588 entries in the “9th IEYI Taiwan Tryout and Exhibition” which was organized by National Taiwan Normal University and the Yilan County Government, thus qualifying to be the national team. Taiwan submitted 6 works of the 60 total works from 9 countries at the competition, and won a total of 6 gold medals at the 9th IEYI, which took place May 9th to 11th, 2013.
Participating in the IEYI is a great way to encourage young people to develop their innovation & invention abilities. Through this activity, adolescents could take their simple ideas and develop them into concrete products on the market. Through the observation, emulation, and publishing of creative works, the old myth of invention behind closed doors will be gotten rid of, thereby bringing out more creative energy. Participating in such events can strengthen young people's interest in scientific and technological inventions and also directly boost their ability to think creatively and enhance their inventiveness.
The gold medal competitors’ works this year are full of ingenuity, close to life, innovative, and practical. It shows that Taiwan’s adolescents have the ability to turn all kinds of creative ideas into reality, which is worth applauding. Chief Secretary Yang thanked the head of the Taiwan delegation of the IEYI, Professor Hong Rong-zhao(洪榮昭) as well as all participating teachers & students for their dedication and efforts and hoped that the commendation would encourage talented young people to continue to work on invention and innovation, thereby stimulating young people's passion for technological inventions and promoting the development of Taiwan’s vigorous culture of invention.
