New York Education Division holds Taiwanese Students Illustration Exhibition
The opening reception attracted more than a hundred artists, professors, and students. Among the guests was Dr. Leona Ying, the author of “From Newton, Einstein to God: Poetic Memoir”, and also a 2015 Next Generation Indie Book award winner. He commented how wonderful illustrations made his book more attractive to the readers, and expressed how honored he felt to be part of the event. Charlin Chang, the director of the Education Division hosting the exhibition said “A unique feature of illustrations is the expression of a story by each one. In recent times, Taiwanese illustrators have become more commonly seen and more popular in the mainstream. We should show our full support of these creative students”.
The fifteen Taiwanese illustrators exhibiting their work were (in alphabetical order): Chang Shao-Wei, Chen Ying-Fan, Cheng Yu Ting, Chiu Keisha, Nina Edwards, Huang Yu-Ming (Savannah College of Art and Design), Susan Lee, Haley Lin (School of Visual Art), Lo Fang-Chun, Jessie Luo (Maryland Institute College of Art), Clovia Ng, Wen-Chi, Julia Yellow, Jennie Yip, and Yu Han-Yuan (Fashion Institute of Technology). The exhibition was very diverse, exploring different creative themes‒fashion, travel, fantasy, character design; different mediums‒watercolor, oil painting, digital, video; and targeting different market areas‒animation, graphic novels, picture books, stationery, decorative wall art. The illustrators treated viewers of the exhibition to very wide-ranging, lively examples of what’s happening in the illustration field.
