Ministry of Education Promotes Cooperation and Exchanges between Boston University and Institutions of Higher Education in Taiwan
Dr. Lucia S. Lin, Political Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of China (Taiwan) made an official visit to Boston University and met with President Robert Brown on May 27, 2015. Boston University has enjoyed a strong relationship with institutions of higher education in Taiwan for decades and is valued as an important partner in Taiwan’s international education efforts. Dr. Lin exchanged ideas regarding higher education with President Brown and discussed strategies for international student recruitment, and for expanding cooperation between Boston University and Taiwan.

Dr. Min-Ling Yang, Director-General of the Department of International and Cross-strait Education, and Ms. Cynthia Huang, Director of the Education Division at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Boston accompanied Dr. Lin to Boston University. They met with Dr. Willis Wang, Vice President and Associate Provost for Global Programs, to discuss projects already in progress. Dr. Wang also gave them details of the university’s overseas student internships and its study abroad program and proposed broadening academic cooperation in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Boston University and the Ministry of Education signed a formal agreement to promote international understanding of Taiwan’s rich cultural heritage through collaborative research in 2007. This led to the development of several Taiwan-related curricula and a Taiwan Forum public lecture series is held annually. Dr. Lin met with two professors who helped create the curricula, Professor Eugenio Menegon, Director of the Boston University Center for the Study of Asia, and Dr. Robert Murowchick, Director of the International Center for East Asian Archaeology & Cultural History. She expressed her appreciation for the interest that Boston University faculty and students have in Taiwan, and that she looks forward to even more innovative research in the future.
