Taiwan Resource Centre of Chinese Studies set up at the University of Malaya
The University of Malaya in Malaysia signed a memorandum of understanding with the National Central Library in Taiwan, under which a Taiwan Resource Centre for Chinese Studies will be set up in the university’s East Asian Studies Library. This is the 15th such resource center established aboard, and it is the second in Malaysia. The first was established two years earlier in University Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR).

The University of Malaya is the oldest and most esteemed university in Malaysia, and it was the first university to set up a Chinese Studies department and has since built strong relationships with many universities in Taiwan.

Professor Professor Dato' Dr. Mohd Amin Bin Jalaludin, the vice chancellor of the University of Malaya, expressed his gratitude at the signing ceremony on July 13, 2015 to Taiwan’s National Central Library for its consistent efforts over the last two years promoting academic cooperation between the two institutions. He expressed his belief that the new resource center will be a good platform for promoting and sharing Chinese studies resources, and that this will be beneficial for the faculty, scholars, and students at the university.

Dr. Tseng Shu-hsien, director general of the National Central Library expressed her confident hopes that setting up a Taiwan Resource Centre for Chinese Studies in the East Asian Studies Library of the University of Malaya will have a profound influence on the promotion of Taiwan-related Chinese studies, and will extend the influence of Taiwan’s research achievements and publications in Malaysia. The National Central Library will initially provide 550 titles, comprising 615 volumes, of Chinese books to the new resource center.

Dr. Tseng said that the National Central Library will continue to donate books to this Taiwan Resource Centre for Chinese Studies in Malaysia in the future, and it will also provide the resource center access to its digital resources and to the e-databases of major institutes in Taiwan.
