As well as attending the conference sessions, the delegates took advantage of the opportunity to interact and network with other participants at various events and enhance the global visibility of higher education in Taiwan and discuss opportunities for academic cooperation. FICHET’s Study in Taiwan stand at the EAIE exhibition provided information about the many study, research and scholarship programmes available to international students at universities in Taiwan.

The delegation of over thirty people included FICHET representatives and senior management personnel from nineteen higher education institutions in Taiwan, and they were accompanied throughout their time in Glasgow by Mr Ouyang Yen-Heng, Director of the Education Division of the Taipei Representative Office in the UK. He travelled from London to welcome the group and helped to arrange a visit to the University of Glasgow for the day preceding the start of the conference.

The delegation was welcomed to the University of Glasgow by Professor Jane Duckett, the International Dean for East Asia, at an introductory Reception. Professor Duckett gave an overview of the University’s priorities and activities in the East Asia region, and responded to questions from delegates. This was followed by a roundtable discussion on a number of topics proposed in advance by FICHET. Senior professors from various colleges within the University of Glasgow, and Ms Caroline Boddie, the Deputy Head of International Recruitment (East Asia), also participated in the discussion. The visit concluded with a guided tour of the campus.

The delegation considered their visit to the University of Glasgow and the roundtable discussion highly informative and of great benefit. They provided a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the university’s activities in Asia, explore opportunities for collaborative partnerships with more universities in Taiwan, and establish links for future contact.
