Taiwan welcomes four New Colombo Plan Scholars in 2016

The New Colombo Plan is an Australian Government initiative to encourage more Australian students to undertake study and internships in locations across the Indo-Pacific region. The New Colombo Plan Scholarships program gives scholars the opportunity to live, study and work in the region in 2016 for up to 12 months.
On 30 November 2015, Australia’s Foreign Minister Ms Julie Bishop announced that four New Colombo Plan scholars had been awarded a scholarship to study in Taiwan under the 2016 round of the Australian Government’s New Colombo Plan.
Congratulations to William Bruffey, Piero Craney, Monique Filet, and Anna Vaughan, they will join over 130 Australians who will come to Taiwan for a range of short courses, exchanges, practicums, and internships, to engage in the region take advantage of Taiwan’s friendly study environment.
These four scholars will study in wide range of disciplines: arts, law, international studies, and science. Anna Vaughan, for example, a science student from the University of Tasmania will study at National Taiwan University and then undertake a research-based internship in the Physics department at Academia Sinica, the leading academic research institution in Taiwan.
William Bruffey, Piero Craney, and Monique Filet plan to undertake a work placement in Taiwan with the Australian Office in Taipei, a Taiwan-based international law firm, and a water conservation group respectively.
