Officials from the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) accompanied by personnel from the Ministry of Education and Culture of Paraguay recently delivered some of the computer equipment donated by the ASUS Foundation to educational institutions in Paraguay, as part of the cooperation between the Republic of China (Taiwan) and the Republic of Paraguay.

The ASUS Foundation has donated 200 notebooks and 200 tablets, which will be distributed to educational institutions. The main objectives are to train the students in the use of technology for teaching purposes and to strengthen literacy through technological innovations.

On this occasion, fifteen of the tablets were presented to Escuela San Alfredo school in Concepcion, and sixteen tablets were presented to Escuela Generacion de la Paz school in Pedro Juan Caballero. Both schools are situated in the northern part of Paraguay.

The Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to the Republic of Paraguay, Mr. Alexander Yui and the Vice Minister of Education and Culture of Paraguay, Ms. María del Carmen Giménez, have worked together on this project that will benefit Paraguayan youth. The valuable contribution of the ASUS Foundation enables more technology to be integrated into the educational process. The President of the Congress, Mr. Roberto Acevedo; the Mayor of Concepción, Mr. Alejandro Urbieta Cáceres; and the Mayor of Pedro Juan Caballero, Mr. José Carlos Acevedo were among the national dignitaries who attended the presentation ceremonies.

During Ambassador Yui’s visit to the departments of Concepcion and Amambay in northern Paraguay, the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) and the Paraguayan Taiwan Alumni Association held three conferences to inform young people about the scholarships offered by the government of the Taiwan, and the opportunities to study the Chinese language and undergraduate and graduate programs in Taiwan. The main objective is to promote the interest of young Paraguayans in studying abroad, and members of the Paraguayan Taiwan Alumni Association shared details of their experience of studying abroad in Taiwan with the audience.

Approximately 600 senior high school students from different public schools attended each conference and asked questions about Taiwan’s education system and the possibilities for studying in Taiwan.

Since 1991, 304 scholarships have been granted to Paraguayan students, and more than 150 students are currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree, or a PhD at different universities in Taiwan.
