Date:
The forum was jointly organized by the German Rectors' Conference (HRK) and by the Foundation for International Cooperation in Higher Education of Taiwan (FICHET), with intensive coordination and support provided by the Education Division of the Taipei Representative Offices in Berlin. Rectors, international office directors, and scholars of universities in Germany that have been engaged in collaborations with Taiwan were invited to attend. Approximately fifty people took part, with equal numbers from Germany and from Taiwan, including the presidents of many prestigious universities.

Prof. Dr. Horst Hippler, the president of HRK, Prof. Dr. Jhy-wey Shieh, and Taiwan’s Representative in Germany, and Prof. Dr. Su Huey-Jen, the chairperson of FICHET, each made opening remarks at the forum and extended their best wishes.

The broad topics addressed at the forum were: Current higher education policy; and university cooperation through study aboard, and exchanges of university teaching staff, and doctoral students. There was a good deal of lively discussion and many models of excellent cooperative interaction between university partners were presented and brought to everyone’s attention.
