Children’s Chinese Language Tests in London

The Education Division of the Taipei Representative Office in the United Kingdom helped administer the Children’s Chinese Competency Certification (CCCC) at the Chinese Community School in London on May 7, 2017.
This is the second time the school has offered the CCCC and 38 pupils registered to sit the test at one of three proficiency levels.
The CCCC will also be held on June 10 at the London Overseas Chinese School, which enters pupils for the CCCC annually. Sixty-five pupils will participate there this year.
The CCCC is designed for non-native speakers of Mandarin, aged between seven and twelve years old. It draws on a wide variety of images and experiences that are familiar to children and relate to their everyday lives, and the questions incorporate simple and colourful drawings to trigger young imaginations and make the test visually appealing. They are also intended to encourage children and stimulate their interest in learning more Chinese vocabulary.
Everyone who passes the CCCC is awarded a certificate stating their Chinese proficiency level. This gives the young test-takers pupils a clear acknowledgement of their language-learning progress and ability to respond to the challenges inherent in language testing, and this increases their confidence.
The results also enable parents, teachers and school leaders to assess the pupils’ standards and to evaluate the effectiveness of their current teaching and learning approaches.
