Department of Statistics
I. Foreword
The Department of Statistics (DOS) of MOE, in its mission to promote the development of education statistical systems, has developed a central repository of education profiles of statistical systems. The scope of work of the DOS covers statistical planning, official statistics, statistical surveys, statistical databases, applied statistical analyses, statistical services and much more.
Recently, statistical information has attracted a significant amount of attention to develop the diversity in education. Consequently, as the importance of educational statistics is increased, the workload of DOS becomes heavier. However, with the help of the use of information techniques and technology statistical methods and the cooperation with other public sectors, the efficiency of statistics works has been enhanced.
DOS comprises two divisions with 12 staff members. They include a department head, a deputy department head, a senior executive officers,two chiefs, three specialists, three officers, and one research assistant. In addition, there are 7 contracted personnel and one personnel on loan. According to Ministry of Education Organization Act, Responsibilities of various divisions are listed below.
II. Responsibilities
The department is divided into two divisions, the higher education statistics division and the K-12 education statistics division.
The higher education statistics division:
The higher education statistics division performs the following functions, within the areas of its mission:
- in charge of discussing and proposing of educational statistics surveys
- in charge of statistics of higher education
- in charge of statistics of technical and vocational education
- in charge of statistics of college education
- in charge of statistics of teacher education
- in charge of statistics of physical education
- in charge of statistics of international culture and educational relations
- in charge of statistics of overseas students education
- in charge of establishment and management of educational statistics databases
- in charge of collection, research and analyses of systematically gather data from the execution of educational planning
The K-12 education division:
The K-12 education statistics division performs the following functions, within the areas of its mission:
- in charge of planning and developing of educational statistics
- in charge of setting and promoting statistical standards of education
- in charge of statistics of secondary education
- in charge of statistics of primary education
- in charge of statistics of pre-school education
- in charge of statistics of supplementary education
- in charge of statistics of special education
- in charge of statistics of social education
- in charge of statistical works and communications with affiliated agencies, schools, and education bureaus in country governments and city governments
- in charge of statistics of educational expenditure
