Taiwan and Austria Sign a Memorandum on Enhancing Cooperation in General and Vocational Education

Witnessed by Political Deputy Minister Lu Mu-lin and Mrs. Sieglinde Spanlang, head of Austria's Tourism Department, Chen Ming-yin, Director General of the Department of Technological and Vocation Education (TVE) and Dr. Theodor Siegl, Director General of the Department of Technological and Vocational Education, the Ministry of Education, Art and Culture of the Federal Republic of Austria sign the memorandum.
The memorandum includes:
- To better understand each other's educational and training system, both countries will endeavor to promote short-, mid-term exchanges between their teachers.
- Both countries will encourage students to visit the other country's technological and vocational schools as well as businesses for exchanges in practical training lasting at least six weeks.
- Austria will provide Taiwan's German language teachers and academics with opportunities to take part in educational seminars for the people studying Austrian culture and literature, as well as provide Taiwan's German language educational institutions and short-term workshops (such as holding the Austrian Day) with teaching materials needed for studying Austrian culture and literature.
- Both countries will use innovative web technologies to promote exchanges between teachers and students in eLearning experience, cooperation and communication in the classroom.
Currently 21 Taiwanese schools, including National Taiwan University , have become sister schools or signed a memorandum with 10 Austrian universities. It is hoped through signing this memorandum the two countries will establish closer educational ties in terms of practical training, industry-academia cooperation and German language teaching.
