President of National Chung Hsing University visits 5 German Universities
President Lee then went on to visit five universities: Technische Universität (TU) Dresden, Technische Universität (TU) Berlin, Otto von Guericke-Universität (OVGU) Magdeburg, Technische Universität (TU) Darmstadt, and Humboldt-Universität (HU) in Berlin. Most of these universities belong to the 11 universities that were identified as an “excellence university”, i.e. these universities were successful in the Initiative for Excellence by the German Federal Government. and they rank among the top universities in Germany and Europe.
The main focus of these visits was to identify areas of academic cooperation and discuss lines of action. Dr Lee was received by the president of TU Berlin, and by the vice-presidents of the other universities and the heads of their International Office. At TU Dresden Dr Lee was introduced to what is called the DRESDEN-concept. A longer more informative title is the Dresden Research and Education Synergies for the Development of Excellence and Novelty. This is an association of 14 cultural and research institutions, which was established in 2009 and is quite unique in Germany.
An excellent result of this visit is that the current exchange program with the University of Magdeburg could be finalized by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding for even more areas of academic cooperation. The arrangements for this visit were all arranged by the Educational Division of the Taipei Representative Office, and the director, Dr Shen, will help to follow up the matter.
