Mr. Ulf Melin, Director-General of the Swedish Council for Higher Education visited Taiwan in March 2014.

Mr. Ulf Melin, Director-General of the Swedish Council for Higher Education, and Mr. Hans Gronlund, Deputy-director of the International Cooperation Department were invited by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to visit Taiwan between March 30 and April 5, 2014. This was Mr. Melin’s 4th visit to Taiwan and Mr Grunland’s first visit to Asia.

The main purpose of their visit was to exchange ideas with educators in Taiwan and learn from the educational experience of educators in Sweden. The delegation met with the Minister of Education Dr. Wei-Ling Chiang, and the presidents of National Chengchi University and National Taiwan Normal University, which rank among the top universities in Taiwan. They also met with the president of National Taiwan University of Science and Technology. Taiwan’s universities of technology are a demonstrated vibrant education sector which is undergoing restructuring and is very involved in international activities.

Sweden’s International Cooperation Department also includes vocational and secondary education international links and collaboration. In addition to meeting and talking with higher education experts, the delegation also visited a senior high school, a vocational high school, and a junior high school to learn more about current secondary education in Taiwan and explore the possibility of future collaboration in the secondary and vocational education sectors. Mr Gronlund’s first visit to Taiwan included a trip to Taichung to experience and enjoy local culture.
