Three events were held in the United Kingdom in February to inform local students and researchers about the scholarships and other funding available to support their studying Chinese, completing a degree, or undertaking research in Taiwan.

The first was a session to inform Taiwan Studies students at SOAS at the University of London about the various scholarship programs offered by the Ministry of Education in Taiwan, particularly the Huayu Enrichment Scholarship and the Taiwan Scholarship. It was held in London at the office of the Education Division of the Taipei Representative Office in the UK on February 6. Director Yen-Heng Ouyang initiated an informative discussion, which included questions about Taiwanese politics.

The second event was a special information session held at the University of Nottingham on February 11. Rafe Markham, a former recipient of a Huayu Enrichment Scholarship now studying there, completely arranged and advertised the evening event to encourage other Nottingham students to similarly benefit from such an opportunity. Mr Markham compiled a PowerPoint presentation about his experience living as a student in Taiwan and how to go about applying for a Huayu Enrichment Scholarship, incorporating information provided by the Education Division.

The third event was a 90-minute presentation and Q&A session at SOAS, University of London, conducted by Education Division staff on February 19. This attracted students and researchers from all over the country. Information was provided about the wide range of language and degree scholarship and research fellowship programs offered by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Taiwan, and various other funded opportunities, all designed to facilitate Taiwan-based study and scholarly work. SOAS academics on the panel contributed actively by describing their own experiences of obtaining funding for their Taiwan-related research projects, and the positive effects this had had.
