The Government of the Republic of China offers Taiwan Scholarships and Huayu Enrichment Scholarships every year to encourage outstanding foreign students to study in Taiwan, and promote the internationalization of higher education in Taiwan. Following a rigorous selection process, the Taipei Representative Office in the EU and Belgium awarded scholarships to 14 students from Belgian universities, such as the Catholic University of Leuven, the University of Ghent, and the Higher Institute for Interpreters and Translators. This year 4 students will also take part in the Summer Intensive Chinese Program organized by National Cheng Kung University. This is an important part part of strengthening educational exchanges between Taiwan and Europe.

To help these students prepare for living and studying in Taiwan, the Education Division hosted an orientation on July 24, 2014. The director Hsu Huei-wen welcomed the students and encouraged them to make the best use of their time in Taiwan. The students each received an information package and had an opportunity to ask questions. Former scholarship recipients also attended and shared valuable details of their experiences with the students soon to set off.

The Taipei Representative Office in the EU and Belgium encourages Belgian and Luxembourgian students to apply for Taiwan Scholarships and Huayu Enrichment Scholarships in a timely manner.
