Taiwanese Education Delegations Visit UK Institutions
As in previous years, the UK has been a popular destination for Taiwanese delegations during the summer and early autumn of 2014. To date, the Education Division of the Taipei Representative Office in the United Kingdom has welcomed four separate delegations during this period and helped to arrange meetings with teachers, other education professionals, and museum directors, among others.

The most recent delegation consisted of eight student teachers from Taiwanese teacher-training universities. They were accompanied by Professor Chen Hwei-Pang, President of National Hsinchu University of Education, and Ms Chen Pei-Ling from the Ministry of Education in Taiwan. The group hoped to develop a more comprehensive understanding of the British education system, as well as learning more about teacher evaluation and ongoing professional development.

Following visits to schools and other education institutes in the cities of Edinburgh, Newcastle and Leeds, the group headed south to London. Their final visit was to the Institute of Education, University of London on September 29, accompanied by the Director and Assistant Director of the Education Division. The Institute of Education is currently ranked first in the world for education studies according to the QS rankings 2014, and it was a short-listed contender for the prestigious University of the Year title in the Times Higher Education Awards 2014.

The delegation met with specialists in secondary education and teacher training at the Institute of Education who gave informative presentations and engaged in thought-provoking discussion with the student teachers. The group thoroughly benefitted from the interaction and departed with a far greater knowledge of practices and approaches in the UK education sector.
