Dr. Huang Jong-Tsun, President of the Higher Education Evaluation and Accreditation Council of Taiwan led a delegation of presidents, vice-presidents, and deans from 8 universities in Taiwan, Ms. Huang Wen-Ling, the MOE Director-General of Higher Education, and other higher education personnel on a study visit to the U.S. from May 26 to June 3, 2015 to learn more about the functions and implementation of institutional research in U.S. universities.

Their study tour began with the 4-day 2015 AIR Forum in Denver. AIR stands for Association for Institutional Research, and this annual conference event is one of the world’s largest gatherings of higher-education professionals working in institutional research. After the forum, the delegation went to San Francisco from May 30 to June 2 to visit the offices related to institutional research at the University of California System and at Stanford University. Discussions with on-site professionals gave the visiting delegation a greater understanding of the prototypes used for data analysis and decision making in the two universities.

The Education Division of the TECO in San Francisco coordinated the visits and local transportation for the delegation, and also arranged a campus tour at Stanford University. Two Stanford University students from Taiwan acted as guides, one of whom was a former student of Dr. Huang. Both students enjoyed sharing the history of the university and details of their student life, and the delegates were all impressed.

The delegation flew back to Taiwan on June 2, after a fruitful visit in San Francisco.
